In Arizona, when a person said let’s hike, it usually meant you would be surrounded by faded green cactus, dusty light brown dirt, a light blue sky, a scattering of clouds, and if it was just the right season, some of the brightest blooms on bushes and cactus. Here in Oregon, there will most likely be very little brown, a multitude of greens, at least one water source nearby, and the rest of the colors depended on which month you were here. So when I went with a scattering of earth tones, I went with what I knew I would find no matter the time of year…. Blue water, green moss, grey and white clouds, and that one mud puddle that always seems like it won’t be much until your shoe is 4 inches deep and will definitely need to be cleaned.
