Non-binary is in umbrella term for people who don’t identify as one gender, do not identify as having a gender, or fluctuate in gender. We have quite a few friends and family who fall into this umbrella term. We watch them thrive in a world that tries to bury them. Sadly, we also see them get punished for who they truly are. As much as we love them, we can’t share them with everyone and that hurts. Protection, sometimes means calling them a gender that they are not in public so that they are not outed or not bringing them up at all. People ask why we have pride month. People ask why we have parades. People don’t want us to shove it in their face. This is not shoving it in someone’s face. This is proving that we can survive. This is proving that we are not going anywhere. This is proving that if you go after my non-binary friends, I will raise absolute hell. I want a day where I can openly talk about my friends without worrying that I am putting them in an unsafe position. To all my non-binary friends and the rest of the rainbow, You have a home with us.
